Takeaways

Six things to take from this episode

In the speakers’ own words, with an English translation under each quote.

1:52

Not just theory: company-level practice

Shruti expected college-style theory. The SQL questions in class were the kind companies ask.

Mujhe pehle aisa laga tha ki bas theory hoga, jaisa college mein hota hai.

Shruti: “At first I thought it would just be theory, the way it is in college.” (translated)

SQL mein ma'am jo questions deti thi, woh genuinely company level pe the.

Shruti: “The questions ma’am gave us in SQL were genuinely company level.” (translated)

Interviews felt easy

Mock interviews outside went easily, and so did the DSA and Python questions in her campus interview: she had learned them from Arnab Banerjee.

Matlab jo maine mock interviews bahar try kiye, usme interview ke questions easily crack ho jaate the.

Shruti: “I mean, in the mock interviews I tried outside, I cracked the interview questions easily.” (translated)

It was totally based on DSA, Python, jo ki Arnab sir se maine padha tha, toh woh easily ho gaya.

Shruti: “It was all DSA and Python, which I had learned from Arnab sir, so it went easily.” (translated)

Your curiosity, your effort

Our founder on what a student brings: Shruti came to class after a long day at a college far away, and after her internship.

Toh sirf hum padhaayein, ye zaroori nahi hai. Tumhari curiosity, aur tum khud kitna usme effort lene ko tayyar ho.

Pratigya: “So it is not only about us teaching. It is your curiosity, and how much effort you yourself are ready to put in.” (translated)

Extra practice, morning or evening

Her SQL trainer, Vaibhavi Petkar, ran practice sessions every day and called students in for extra classes.

…ma'am daily humari practice leti thi us question pe, practice session alag hota tha.

Shruti: “…ma’am took our practice on those questions every day; the practice session was separate.” (translated)

…yahan pe ma'am extra bulaati thi, kabhi hume subah, kabhi shaam ko extra leti thi.

Shruti: “…here ma’am called us in for extra classes, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the evening.” (translated)

Look at the quality, not the fee

What she tells her juniors when they compare institutes by their fees.

…wahan pe fees kam hai aur yahan fees zyada hai. Toh kya difference bataogi?

Pratigya: “…the fee there is lower and the fee here is higher. So what difference would you tell them?” (translated)

So agar kuch seekhna hai na, toh quality dekhni chahiye, na ki paisa.

Shruti: “If you want to learn something, look at the quality, not the money.” (translated)

Logic, not the language

Her advice to first-year students: full stack first, databases in the second year, DSA in the third, and logic above any one language.

Jo skill set hai, woh first year se hi build karo, so that aage tumhe aur seekhne ka kuch mauka milega.

Shruti: “Build your skill set from the first year, so that you get the chance to learn more later.” (translated)

Jo important hai, woh logic building.

Shruti: “What matters is logic building.” (translated)

Story

Shruti’s path to Unisoft

As told in the episode.

Her path so far

  1. First year: C, C++ and full stack, on her own.
  2. A senior’s tip. A senior who had studied at Unisoft, now a Java developer, told her about it.
  3. Counselling with Satish Manelu, our COO, who took her through the Data Analyst and data science courses and single subjects.
  4. Second year: the Data Analyst course, to learn databases. SQL with Vaibhavi Petkar, then Python and Power BI; Excel is under way.
  5. DSA and Python with Arnab Banerjee. The DSA and Python questions in her campus interview went easily.
  6. Third year now, working on DSA. Her juniors have joined Unisoft too.

Meet Shruti

PratigyaShruti, tum Unisoft kaise pahunchi?

ShrutiMeri senior thi ma'am, jo yahan se padhi, aur unka achchha placement hua tha. Toh then I asked her. So unka bahut achchhi jagah placement hua tha, and she is doing very well now. Toh maine just unse poochha ki aapne Java kahan se kiya tha. Unka as a Java developer hi hua tha. Toh unhone Unisoft ka naam bataya, toh unke through mera yahan aana hua.

PratigyaToh tum sabse pehli baar jab aayi, toh tumne kya kiya? Matlab, kis se mili yahan pe?

ShrutiMain Satish sir ke through hi aayi thi, and phir sir ne mujhe pura plan bataya. Jo bhi hai, unhone kaafi help bhi ki ki data analyst hua, data scientist hua, ya phir individual courses. Toh mujhe theek toh data analyst hi laga, because the package you gave and the faculties are here, they are very...

PratigyaToh how was your training experience? Matlab, you have finished SQL training?

ShrutiYes.

PratigyaYou have finished Excel? You have ongoing Excel training?

ShrutiYes.

PratigyaYou have finished Python?

ShrutiYes.

PratigyaYou have finished SQL, and you have also finished Power BI?

Socha Tha Sirf Theory

ShrutiPower BI.

PratigyaToh tumhara experience kaisa raha? Maan lo tumne jo data analytics first day socha tha, aur jo aaj tumhe data analytics ye teen modules padhne ke baad, aur chautha jo tum ongoing ho, usme tumhe kya difference dikh raha hai?

ShrutiMujhe pehle aisa laga tha ki bas theory hoga, jaisa college mein hota hai. Aur bas normal jo questions karaate hain, bas wahi hoga. But yahan aane ke baad aisa laga ki nahi, kaafi cheezein hain explore karne ke liye bhi.

PratigyaJaise koi example?

ShrutiJaise ki jo industry level pe jo questions hote hain, real time projects jo rehte hain, mujhe ye explore karne mila yahan pe. Aur matlab aisa nahi ki teachers ne bola, but khud se hi laga ki explore karna chahiye. Curiosity level, us level ki develop hui, padhai karte karte. Aur matlab jo cheezein, jaise SQL mein ma'am jo questions deti thi, woh genuinely company level pe the. I mean jo interview toh tha, woh aise hi clear ho jaata tha. Matlab jo maine mock interviews bahar try kiye, usme interview ke questions easily crack ho jaate the.

Campus Interview Ka Sach

PratigyaAbhi tum placed bhi ho, campus ke through, right? Aur tumhare us interview mein kya kya questions the?

ShrutiIt was totally based on DSA, Python, jo ki Arnab sir se maine padha tha, toh woh easily ho gaya.

PratigyaAchha, toh ye DSA aur Python pe the tumhare questions, maximum.

ShrutiScreening questions the DSA pe. And then jo logic building mein jo tha, woh mera question tha, jo tha string manipulation pe. So woh bahut easily ho gaya tha, because usme sir ne bahut easily padhaaya tha.

Effort Kiska?

PratigyaMain tumhe isliye pehchaanti hoon, kyunki mujhe ek cheez jo tumhare baare mein achchhi lagi: tumhara college kaafi door hai, engineering college. … Toh matlab tum pehle subah college jaati thi, … and then you used to come to Unisoft, and then you used to go home, right?

ShrutiYeah.

PratigyaSo you also have taken a lot of effort to learn skill set, right? Tumne ek effort liya. Aur ek aur baat jo mujhe tumhari pasand aayi thi: tumhare kuch college ke vacation time tha, aur tumne koi internship join ki. Aur tum us internship se late chhootti thi, aur woh internship karne ke baad Unisoft aake class karti thi. Toh woh bhi tumhara hard work hai. Toh sirf hum padhaayein, ye zaroori nahi hai. Tumhari curiosity, aur tum khud kitna usme effort lene ko tayyar ho. Tum chaahti toh ek aam student jaise ghar mein baith ke ye bhi keh sakti thi ki haan, main internship kar rahi hoon, toh main class kyun karoon. But you took the effort.

Peechhe Lag Ke Practice

PratigyaAur tum kya bolna chaahogi Unisoft ke baare mein? Matlab, what is the difference you can see?

ShrutiDifference itna hai ki matlab hum college mein sirf jo theory ke under rehte hain, usse hatke aisa hai ki isme real time jo scenario chal raha hai, hum woh dekh sakte hain.

PratigyaTumko aisa nahi laga, tumhe aur bhi institute jaane chahiye?

ShrutiJaane chahiye, laga. But jo cheez matlab yahan ho raha tha, jaise ma'am daily humari practice leti thi us question pe, practice session alag hota tha. Aur ma'am efforts bhi leti thi us level pe ki bachche ko aana chahiye. Aur peechhe lag lag ke karaati thi, ekdum ki karo, karo, aage kaam aayega.

PratigyaKaunsi ma'am ke paas hai tumhara SQL?

ShrutiVaibhavi ma'am.

PratigyaVaibhavi ma'am se tumne SQL kiya hai? Ma'am practice sessions bahut karaati hain?

ShrutiBahut karaati hain. Toh usse bahut zyada help hui, jo ki baaki institute mein nahi hota hai. Jo woh time constraint jo tha, woh fix rehta tha baaki institute mein. But yahan pe ma'am extra bulaati thi, kabhi hume subah, kabhi shaam ko extra leti thi. Toh ye ek baat thi ki mujhe yahan pe rehne ki ichchha hui.

Fees Kam Ya Quality?

PratigyaToh tum Unisoft ko aage logon ko recommend karogi?

ShrutiSure ma'am, obviously.

PratigyaToh jab tum recommend karogi, toh tum kya...

ShrutiI recommend it actually. Actually my juniors are already here.

PratigyaAlready here. I know, I have met them also. Aur matlab tum unko kya difference bataogi, agar woh bolenge ki hum us institute gaye the, wahan pe fees kam hai aur yahan fees zyada hai. Toh kya difference bataogi?

ShrutiSo agar kuch seekhna hai na, toh quality dekhni chahiye, na ki paisa. Mujhe aisa lagta hai.

1st Year Se Roadmap

PratigyaAur koi salaah tum dena chaahogi? Tumhare jaise, tum final year mein ho. Tumne yahan pe second year ya third year mein hi class laga liya tha?

ShrutiThird year mein laga liya tha. Second year... I mean, third year right now.

PratigyaYou are in third year, toh tumne second year mein hi class laga liya tha. Tumhe aisa lagta hai ki shayad first year mein laga lena chahiye tha?

ShrutiHaan, lagta hai.

PratigyaToh tum first year aur second year waalon ko kya suggest karogi?

ShrutiJo skill set hai, woh first year se hi build karo, so that aage tumhe aur seekhne ka kuch mauka milega. Kyunki itne saare subjects hain, ek saath nahi hota hai. First year se basics start karo, jaise apna full stack hai, web development hai. Second year mein database ki taraf jao. Third year mein jo bhi aap DSA ka subject hai, woh aap kar sakte ho. Jaise maine bhi wahi strategy use ki. Maine first year mein khud se hi kiya, matlab jo C, C++, full stack ka jo tha. But second year mein maine database ke liye data analyst ka course choose kiya, so that mera SQL strong ho gaya, Python bhi strong ho gaya. Third year mein abhi main DSA kar rahi hoon. Toh jo mera Python tha, usi mein maine continue kiya, kyunki mera Python ka knowledge zyada hai. Toh jo language hai, woh matter nahi karti hai, kyunki in future tumhe jo skill set hai, woh company kara hi deti hai, kaise na kaise. Jo important hai, woh logic building. Toh aapka logic aise hi build hoga ki starting se aap thoda thoda thoda thoda karoge, toh easily ho jaayega.

Play this part →
Hard Work + Logic

PratigyaAur kuch nahi kehna chaahogi?

ShrutiJust do hard work. Hard work is necessary.

PratigyaNecessary. And logic building, jo tumne point bola, woh bahut necessary hai. Company toh apne level ke, apne products pe, apne kaam ke upar tumhe training deni hi waali hai, that is for sure. Lekin uske pehle, company mein kaam karne laayak ke liye, aapka logic build hona chahiye, aur aapke paas hard work rehna chahiye. If aapko koi cheez karne ki chaahat hai dil se, toh woh matlab phir toh aapka ho hi jaayega, har jagah. Kya tum ye bhi kehna chaahogi ki matlab humne padhaaya tumhare expectations ke hisaab se, isliye tumhara interest bana raha? Tumne itna travel aur itna pura din ka college attend karne ke baad bhi class aane ki ichchha rahi.

ShrutiHaan, main bol sakti hoon. Kyunki kabhi kabhaar aisa hota tha ki nahi jaayein, kya hai... But still ek rehta tha ki ye cheez chhoot jaayegi, phir ma'am repeat nahi karti hain. Toh woh dar tha. Dar bhi tha, and enjoyment bhi thi.

Excel Ka Asli Kaam

PratigyaExcel ke saath saath aapko aisa nahi laga ki pehle Excel ke baare mein aapki soch kuch aur thi, aur padhne ke baad kuch aur hai?

ShrutiMa'am, to be very honest, as a computer engineer mujhe Excel kuch nahi aata tha pehle. But ab mujhe kaafi advanced level pe aata hai.

PratigyaAur tumhe lagta hai ki Excel itne level pe use hota hai?

ShrutiHaan, mujhe pehle nahi pata tha, itni zyada cheezein hoti hain Excel mein. Because abhi jo technical skills hain, woh kaafi advanced ho chuki hain. But abhi aisa lag raha hai ki nahi.

PratigyaAb tumhe samajh mein aa raha hai ki companies mein ya industries mein jab Excel use hota hai, toh uski importance kya hai?

ShrutiYeah, definitely. Bas wohi jaana tha, ki koi cheez padhne ke baad hi samajh mein aayi hai ki uski importance kya hai. Jaise bahut log sochte hain ki Power BI hai, Excel ka kya hi kaam hai. But data sets toh usi mein create honge na. SQL hai, database usi se create hoga, lekin uske liye bhi Excel lagta hi hai, back end mein.

PratigyaYes, woh important hai. Thank you Shruti, tumne humare liye time nikaala. Aur kuch rahega toh hum tumse zaroor baat karenge. All the best aapke next level of job ke liye.

ShrutiThank you.
